National Safety Month, observed every June, is an initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of safety to prevent accidents and injuries in every aspect of daily life. Led by the National Safety Council, this month-long campaign focuses on educating individuals, businesses, and communities about best practices and preventive measures. Some ways you can focus on safety this month include having a plan in place in the event of a fire or other home emergency, keeping a first aid kit in your home, and making sure your vehicle is properly serviced on a regular basis. This month is also an opportunity to assess your fall prevention risks. Experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that there are many steps you can take to reduce your risk of falling, including talking to your doctor about fall prevention, reviewing your medications for interactions that may cause dizziness, wearing proper footwear, keeping your floors clear of clutter, and having handrails installed. Keep in mind that the goal of this month is to prioritize safety not just as an obligation, but as a responsibility that we owe to ourselves and those around us.
As the name implies, Short-Term Care Coverage — also known as STC — is designed to provide benefits for just a few days or up to 360 days. It encompasses services that people typically need when they're unable to take care of daily activities by themselves, like after a surgery or an illness. In these situations, Medicare is very limited and has specific requirements. STC, however, covers stays in assisted living facilities or skilled nursing homes, services offered by home aides, and even certain prescription medications. STC offers affordable premiums and generally pays out immediately when you need it, so you're protected from high out-of-pocket costs.
Do you want to learn more about STC and how it can help you save? Let's chat. Reply to this e-mail or give me a call any time to talk about STC or any of your insurance needs.
Water isn't just a refreshing thirst-quencher. As the experts at the National Council on Aging point out, water is essential to almost all bodily functions, from lubricating our joints to pumping blood to our heart. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that adults consume 48 to 64 ounces of fluid each day and, if you venture out in the summer sun, you should consume even more. This can help you avoid dry mouth, headaches, and dizziness related to dehydration. Some tips to make sure you stay hydrated include drinking a full glass of water or clear juice with each meal, refilling your thermos or reusable water bottle throughout the day, limiting dehydrating fluids like alcohol and caffeine, and keeping water-rich fruits and vegetables in your home (for example, melons, berries, oranges, cucumbers, celery, and spinach). Hydrating every day is a relatively easy way to stay healthy while enjoying your summer!
Annuities are a valuable part of any retirement plan because they can provide a consistent stream of income for life. Typically, people buy annuities to guard against two significant risks: market risk and longevity risk. In the event of a sustained market downturn that could make a huge impact on your life savings, your annuity is protected because the risk is shifted to the underwriter. Plus, outliving your money is not an issue for people who have an annuity with a lifetime income provision.
I'm here to help you structure an annuity that safeguards you from risks and suits your personal needs. Simply reply to this e-mail or call me for a chat.
